About Me

Hi, I’m Laura! Welcome to A Foodie Overseas.

This is me ^ in Pai, wearing my favourite travelling trousers.

I started writing my first travel journal at 10 years old, carefully scrapbooking and documenting every day of my family’s 2 week holiday in California. I have wanted to be a travel journalist since I was little, so this is me, trying to make those little girl’s dreams a reality.

I have been incredibly lucky, my mum loves visiting new places (and forcing us all to climb different towers) so I have spent my younger years travelling. But now I’m a student with a student budget, the way I approach travelling has changed.

I got my first taste for ‘proper’ travelling during my year before university. After working full time and saving money from a ski season, I was able to travel around Vietnam and Thailand for 6 weeks. In a group of 8, including my gorgeous boyfriend, we experienced an entirely new culture, meeting the loveliest people and visiting the most beautiful. And from that point on, I was hooked.

At the moment, I’m studying international history at university which I absolutely love. While it might sound like a far cry from travelling, a recent module on Japanese modern history has sparked a determination to visit and learn about as much of the world as I can.

So what about the ‘foodie’ part of my blog?

Well, I love food, I love cooking and I love the experience of cooking with different people. After visiting these amazing countries, I have been determined to find or replicate the cuisine at home. So I also want to use this space to share the amazing food from the places I’ve been, as well as showing how easily it can be made at home! Pad Thai anyone??

So now that the kind of cliché bit is over, here are some fun facts to lighten the mood.

Guilty Pleasure
SHOP BOUGHT MASH POTATO

Favourite Film
The Martian… but Harry Potter if we’re counting series'!

What could I be better at?
Being vegetarian L I’m trying to cut down as much as possible, quorn is just too expensive for a student budget and I like chicken okay

Fun Fact
At the age of 18, I broke my front tooth playing laser tag
